Slough’s energy centre is one of the UK’s longest serving and most flexible energy facilities. It is a pioneer of renewable energy. The energy centre is the UK’s largest dedicated biomass energy facility.

The energy centre has been converted from coal to be fuelled by clean wood chips and Fibre Fuel and is one of the UK’s cleanest power stations using these renewable energy sources.

The conversion from coal was the result of advanced responsible thinking on behalf of Slough Heat and Power and our parent company. It required huge investment of time and money. The value of investment was over £30million. This has created the UK’s largest dedicated biomass energy plant.

Slough Heat and Power generates around 270 GWh of bio-electricity per year. This is second only to Drax power station which co-fires biomass fuels with coal. Unlike co-firers, we also supply useful bio-heat (in the form of hot water and steam) in addition to electricity.
