Please study the information provided below.

We distinguish between two types of wood chip fuel, both of which are clean and free from contamination.

Chips from virgin wood, termed ‘biomass’, is sourced from tree surgeons, local authorities, wood harvesting enterprises, sawmills etc.

Chips from recycled wood, termed ‘recycled’, is sourced from packaging, such as pallets and crates, demolition wood, off-cuts from wood-based manufacturing enterprises etc.

We accept all hardwoods and softwoods. Wood must be unpainted and untreated. Wood chip must be free from green leaves or needles. We do not accept plywood, chipboard, MDF, OSB or hardboard

Fuel quality is critical for smooth operation of our fuel handling equipment, efficiency of our equipment, durability of equipment and ongoing maintenance requirements. We specify fuel dimension, fines content and moisture content and suppliers must adhere to these specifications. Wood chip fuel must be free from any contamination.

Please study our fuel quality specification which you can download here.

Also, details of our quality checks process for wood deliveries which you can download here.

The energy centre uses large quantities of wood chip fuel, around 3500 tonnes per week biomass plus 3500 tonnes per week recycled. Such sizeable quantities require a well-considered and managed system for deliveries.

All deliveries are scheduled in advance and we operate a time slots system to which suppliers must adhere.

We also require deliveries to arrive and depart from the energy centre via particular routes.
