Ø Wood fuel We use only clean, uncontaminated wood chips. Much of our wood is from local forestry enterprises and tree surgeons who manage woodlands, forests, parks and roadsides. We purchase chips made from branches, stems and other material which has few, if any, other economic uses. The management of wooded land resources, such as thinning over-stocked dense tree stands, helps wildlife and flora. We also source uncontaminated wood from local sawmills, where chips are a by-product from sawing timber. Wood chips are also made from clean pallets, demolition wood, joinery off-cuts etc. and these are delivered to us. Dedicated wood energy crops are grown by local farmers on land that has been set-aside from food production. Fast growing willow is coppiced on a short rotation. This is a new and increasing source of wood. Much of our wood is locally sourced. This makes financial and environmental sense. We have over 100 forest enterprises and tree surgeons registered and more than one quarter of our wood fuel is sourced from within 50 miles. Our skills are combined with traditional practices by South England’s forest management and sawmilling industries. Through our work with wood fuel suppliers, we invest over £3million each year into the rural economy. This helps sustain and create dozens of jobs.
